Colour ---------- Polishing and Buffing Compound.
Black ------------ Black Magic, Emery Base, Heavy Cut.
Grey ------------- Aluminum Oxide, Course Cut on Stainless, (Black and Grey are heavy cut compounds used for regular steel, stainless & softer metals. Ideally suited to remove small scratches after sanding, or to cut through light wax or oxide build-ups).
Brown ------------ Medium to fine cut, greasy
White -------------- 96 Stainless, White Diamond, Medium cut, Finish compound on stainless.
Green --------------- Polish, Final Colouring on Aluminum, Brass, Copper & Stainless requiring High Luster (Brown and Green are used for regular steel, stainless & softer metals. Ideally suited for use after black or grey has started to bring up the finish. Sometimes this finish is adequate as a final buffing.)
Red Rouge ----------- Jeweler's Rouge, very fine, high polish, mirror finish (Used for glass, plastic & soft metals. Ideal for chrome mirror finish on aluminum.)
Super-Bright ----------- White, very high luster, dry bight finish, (also scratch removal on glass & some plastics.)
Translucent Tan ------- Excellent for chrome & other electro-plated parts, mirror finish, very light cut with soft buff. (Good for chrome only.)
Tan ---------------------- For wood and plastic polishing

Generally the greasier the bar, the more the cut and the drier the bar, the greater the polishing action. The abrasive cutting ability of each colour may vary from one bar to another.

Generally you should never use more than one compound on a buffing wheel unless you thoroughly clean the wheel first. Otherwise the first compound will still be the active one. You can clean or prepare a wheel by spinning it ( always away from you), and vigorously rubbing buff with a rasp, file or a special buffing wheel rake. With a new wheel, threads will fly off and the work surface will become soft. With a used wheel compound will be cleaned out and be ready for the next colour compound.

Generally you should choose a linen wheel for heavy/course buffing, a cotton wheel for polishing and a flannel wheel for waxes etc.

How to Apply Compound
Spin the buffing wheel (always rotating the wheel away from the edge to be buffed) and rub compound on the edge of the wheel. The friction caused from the wheel spinning will allow the compound to melt onto the wheel. For final polishing use compound sparingly and buff with very light pressure. Too much compound will cause the work to look cloudy.

 What makes the ONEWAY Buffing System better than other buffers? Our buffer is not cut from discs of cloth and stacked up like a bunch of donuts, instead it is cut from a long strip of cloth that is cut on the bias. This long strip is then wrapped and mounted on an arbour. The end result is that each long thread is bound to the central hub. With this system, threads don't get flung from the buffer, so it lasts longer.
The unique puckered face also buffs better.

ONEWAY's Buffing Kit comes with a firm wheel, a medium
wheel and a soft wheel. Also included are two buffing
compounds: white diamond compound, Tripoli, and a hard finishing wax. There is an arbour in the kit that fits a 3/8 drill chuck so you can use the buffer in either your lathe or drill press. Buffing is fast, simple and effective - what more could you want?

Nick's New Moulding Sander

We have just finished developing our NEW Moulding Sander. Using our proven mop sander technology we have just introduced our version of the moulding sander using four 220 grit mop refills on our exclusive spindle. By passing a moulding through under the spinning mop you will obtain a finish ready for stain application or clear finish. Use it between coats to speed up your finishing process. You can add a courser refill on the right outboard for touching up rough spots or for mop sanding other iregular shaped objects. This machine comes assembled as shown below, will require a good 3/4 hp motor at 1725 rpm. A 3" motor pulley is included with the package. The sanding head raises and lowers according to need by operating the hand crank.
Frame is all 1" square tube and welded steel construction. The plywood base shown is not included. Just mount it on a bench or stand with motor hung below, add a suitable belt and you are ready to go. You won't believe how well this works. Be sure to add a suitable guard over the belt.

Surface Sander Kit

Over the past year we have developed a super new
surface sander utilizing an 18" Velcro® covered drum that uses
looped paper spiral wound around it.
This machine requires only a 1/4 or 1/3 HP motor and paper
only costs about $1.00 per refill.
This machine can not only surface sand long flat pieces
but also edges and is just the ticket for finishing off those
pins on dovetails and box joints to perfection.
All sanding dust is contained in a drawer below the drum
and can easily be dumped.

24" and 30" Surface Sander

Here at last is the new 30" Surface Sander that we have designed. We have had many requests for this machine and are pleased to be able to offer you the plans for this machine now. We have developed a plan for the machine shown above which we built for our show demos and found that people were very interested in it. Sold several as we were perfecting our machine and we are now ready to go.
However we do not put together quite as comprehensive a package for it as we do for the 18" surface sander kit.
First the 30" requires a 11/2 hp 1725 rpm motor. This should be a totally enclosed fan cooled model. Since these come in a variety of shaft sizes and frames it is not possible to include such things as pulleys and belt etc. And although we have a plan many people build the machine to fit in with existing benches or machinery in their shop. However the skeleton construction can still be used as we offer it.

A 24" drum is also available and the 30" plan can be used to build it as well. Just reduce the length of all your parts appropriately.

*New Improved 24" and 30" Drums*
I am told that the current drums being produced both 24" and 30" are better balanced and accurately machined thus requiring less power to drive. Depending on the grit of paper used, you may be able to get away with a 1 hp motor or less.

The plan is $15.00 Can. The drum, bearings and paper are as listed above. The 30" drum is $215.00 Can. The 24" drum is $185.00 Can. The bearings $35.00 Can. for the pair. and the paper is $42.95 Can. per roll of 25 yards. 60 grit $46.95 per roll. The top is constructed somewhat different than with the small one and several methods are suggested in the plan.

We suggest a 48" length of T track for holding the fences at $16.00 Can. and a pack of four 1/4" star knobs with bolts for securing the fence at $6.50 Can. We can also supply a 31/2" balanced steel Browning pulley for $22.50 Can. to fit the drum shaft. We recommend about a 23/4" pulley for the motor.

Above you have a couple of pictures of the model we built which has had a couple of small modifications that experience dictated since these pictures but basically remains the same.
